I had a great experience in my trial class with Tose! As a beginner, I find it super helpful that she pronounces words clearly and that she also writes down what she says so I can follow along as she speaks. She is also super friendly and encouraging! Looking forward to getting better at speaking French.

Teacher Tose is really supportive. When I make mistakes or don’t express myself clearly, she still encourages me. She writes down everything I say first, and after I’m done, she tells me what needs to be corrected.

The teacher is very patient and guides me step-by-step. Instead of giving the correct answers directly, they use various methods to help me find the answers on my own. I really love this teaching style!

Thank you so much for your kind words and for being such a patient teacher. We really appreciate it. Since Lucas is still building his French vocabulary, we'd like him to spend a bit more time learning words on his own first. We think that will make it easier for him to start speaking in full sentences.

I've been learning with Nina for quite some time now, and I honestly can't thank her enough. She guided me through my IGCSE French, and I ended up with a 9, a result I simply wouldn't have achieved without her. Now that I'm tackling IBDP French B, the leap in difficulty is real, but I'm still making steady, noticeable progress week after week. Nina has a gift for quickly spotting weak areas and tailoring each lesson to target them directly, giving me a clear and manageable path forward. If you're after a tutor who actually delivers, look no further. Merci beaucoup, Nina !

This lesson, we focused on describing people. Julia made incredible materials, like giving me hints about the features of the characters in Harry Potter, then letting me guess who it is. She turned boring memorization into a vivid, fun game. Merci beaucoup:)

Each 50-minute class starts with less than ten minutes of talk, followed by casually asking a few questions and then moving on to doing exercises until the end of the class. The teacher often doesn't show her face, is late for class every time, and leaves on time. Her child often makes noise beside her

First lesson after trial session and once again, the lesson felt relaxed. Julie had taken some time to prepare questions that helped promote a lively conversation and especially for me learning needs, encouraged me to express myself on a number of topics. Julie allowed the lesson to flow but stopped at appropriate points to explain points of grammar or provide alternative ways of saying a sentence. A vocabulary sheet was provided by Julie after the lesson as a memory prompt. Great lesson , thank you.

Indeed, David has a systematic method to help students pronounce the French alphabets, vocabularies, phrases and sentences. If you are looking for a way to improve your pronounciations so that you speak French/English more naturally and correctly, you should consider his course.

Tomas is very charismatic, and the lessons are also very informative. You will be able to learn not only the French language itself but also a lot about French history as well as French culture. Needless to say, Tomas is one of the best tutors I have encountered on this platform. I also forgot to mention how patient he is.

Q3. How do I choose my French tutor?
If you have a clear idea of your criteria for choosing a tutor - such as any specific learning objectives, target cost for tutoring, etc. - you can use the search function to quickly find a tutor who suits your needs, and select “book trial” to set up your first French online lesson.
If you don't have time to find a tutor or aren't sure where to start, we can help with recommendations. Try using our tutor recommendation tool here, which will provide you with tutor matches according to your selected needs.
Q4. What's the right learning environment for me? Should I choose a French tutor who is a native speaker?
One of the best ways to learn French is to immerse yourself in an environment where you try to use only French.
However, if you do not currently have a solid base in spelling and/or vocabulary, we recommend you choose a bilingual tutor who speaks your target language and your native language, as you will likely have a better learning experience during your one-on-one private tutoring.
If you have a good range of vocabulary but lack the opportunity to practice, then we recommend you choose a native French tutor.
Q5. Learn French in the US - how do I find a local or online tutor?
You're in the right place. We have local French tutors serving New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and most other areas nationwide, as well as numerous tutors based internationally.
Q6. How much will my online French class cost?
All tutoring fees are set by the French tutors themselves, and not by AT. Most of our French tutors charge USD$10-30 per hour.
You can also get matched with suitable French tutors who fit a specific budget. If the tutor’s fees work for you, you can buy a lesson package from them or start with a “trial lesson.”
Q7. How do I pay for my French lessons?
You can pay with PayPal or credit card (American Express, Mastercard, or Visa). For certain international markets (e.g. Taiwan), we also accept local methods of payment, such as payment via ATM or convenience store.
Q8. How many French lessons should I purchase?
If you have a short term goal, we recommend you purchase enough lessons that you can take classes consistently within your timeframe. If you need significant improvement to reach your goal, we recommend you an adequate number of lessons, and get into the habit of regular weekly learning! The more you put in, the more you get out of it!
