Hello! My name is Olivia, and I am originally from Austria. However, I currently reside in the Netherlands, where I teach English (among other subjects).
I enjoy meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. Furthermore, I carry a passion for learning new languages. Currently, I am trying to explore the hidden treasures of the Japanese and Swedish language. Speaking with people who want to improve their English (or German, or Dutch) is something I LOVE to do.
My other hobbies apart from languages are cooking and reading. I’m very interested in history and the impact it has on today’s society. Actually, everything's connected with culture, and wouldn’t you agree … in the end it's always about food.
"To have a second language is to have a second soul." a Roman Emporer once said.
My professional background is in Civil Engineering. But rather quickly, after receiving my credentials, I realised that language & teaching is my true passion. Aside from German, which is my mother tongue, I obviously speak English (certified level 5 TEFL teacher); furthermore, I fluently speak Dutch and have basic knowledge of Russian (2yrs Slavic Studies at the University of Innsbruck). In addition to my professional education in languages, I have 20yrs of experience in tutoring.
So, why would you choose me to teach you?
First of all, I'm funny. However, more importantly: I get you! I'm an expat myself; I've been learning several languages in the course of my life, in- and outside of a classroom. I know that language is not merely grammar & vocabulary but more often a bridge to overcome cultural boundaries. I do not only provide structured language courses but can also help you to develop your language skills and help you link the bits of knowledge you already have with the once needed.
I am looking forward to working with you.
